Managers must be able to confidently give direct, honest, and timely feedback without emotion or judgment to be able to achieve the organization’s goals. This can be more difficult than it seems, as giving opinions on others’ work performance may lead to conflicts, arguments or overly sensitive employees. But it’s imperative that feedback is given in order for everyone to improve at work.

Employees actually tend to desire a manager’s input on their performance to assess how well they are doing at they job, and they often make even more of an effort in the workplace if they receive frequent feedback. According to a Pricewaterhouse Coopers survey, more than 75 percent of respondents believe that feedback is valuable – with 45 percent of respondents valuing feedback from their peers and clients or customers. However, less than 30 percent said they actually receive it. Feedback clearly needs to happen much more than it usually does.
